This is in my for sure top 5 favorite items I have made and I liked it sooo much and was so happy with the outcome that I took it with me to show my father in southern California 3 trips ago and I can’t get it home. So this time I just gave up and took a picture of it. When I brought it down my husband and I had drove down there. I had , had a dog stolen from down there and we drove back still trying to find him. (He was a purebred mutt and I loved him so and still miss him very much)So anyway we did not have a dog or much luggage and I was able to get it down there to show him (my father)and a few days later it was missing from my bedroom and I found it hung at the end of my fathers hallway, and I guess that is where it is going to stay and I am never going to get it back as since then we have dogs again and we won’t go anywhere without them and they are not little dogs as you will see if you were to stay with this blog as there are pix of them. Anyway I flew down this time and tried to get it home and we (my son Hunter and I )realized we were not getting it back home this time. This eagle’s original pattern is flat and I decided to make it an intarsia project and tho’ the pictures do not really show it this bird has a 30 inch wingspan.

This was a kind of gag gift I gave to my son Troy and his wife D.I.L. last year. I will have to look up who the designer is but he designs things like this a lot and they are fun to make. His patterns can be found in Creative Woodworks and Crafts. He calls this one a “Buck Saw.”By the way , believe it or not the “bucks” are actually made from a* pomegranate *tree that’s located in so. Ca. at my father’s house. Just like the lemon tree in my cockatoo this tree also needed pruning and hubby was the lucky one asked to do it and we were astonished at how *BEAUTIFUL* the wood was/is.There are all sorts of different shades of yellows starting with real light, almost white all the way to nice shades of light browns. I had no idea about how to dry this and just took a chance. I made this for my son 2 Christmas’s ago
and when I was down there this Christmas I took this picture, so , so far so good as to holding up. It never ceases to amaze me at the innards of a tree.When I look at a *pomegranate* tree or consume it’s fruit now I think about it all so differently. I can’t wait to share with you, who come here to my page, the wood from the *apricot *tree that we also pruned! It almost looks like the wood *paduak* It’s just plain awesome!!!
The handle is green poplar.

This is an old piece of wood that I found as is, then I found this pattern of a lion in Creative Woodworks and crafts and it seemed as if they were meant to be together . The backer is a piece of that “Paper Tree”

This is from a book titled Coloring Mandala’s ,for Balance ,Harmony, and Spiritual Well Being. It is a coloring book, however it also explains all about the history of the “circle” I love these things and have made several of them out of this book out of wood. Usually I turn them into wind chimes or hang crystals from them and put them in a sunny window.

This is something I also enjoy doing. I make singular items and then put them together as in this, my 86 year young daddy’s address sign. I have made and sold several address signs. No 2 are alike.

This Phoenix is perhaps the most colorful project I have made to date due to the wood used.He consists of Walnut, Black Walnut, Maple, Red Maple, Cedar and Aromatic Cedar. He has two pieces of my fathers Pomegranite Tree along with a couple pieces of his Lemon Tree homegrown in La Mirada California! There is also Mahogony in this and Cherry Wood . I actually have just one piece of what is called Blood wood and also a tiny piece of what is known as Lace wood which is in his eye section. Lace wood is gorgeous wood,very expensive as it comes from some part of the world I know I will never get to go too. Actually I do need to read up on this particular wood so I am not so uninformed. We bought a 4 foot piece of it last summer and my plan is to make a Dragon out of it as it looks to have “spots or scales” on it! It is an extremely hard wood and I know I will be busting a few scroll saw and bandsaw blades on it! Also the phoenix’s right wing,the top of that is what I call the heart or center of the wood (this piece being pine) but is also known as pith. I made this a year or longer ago and in retrospect due to the kind of wood I used I am lucky as it seems to be holding it’s own and not shrinking up on me as some wood is hardwood and some not and the Pomegranite and Lemon Tree pieces are actually green pieces (alive) that needed to be trimmed down due to a wind storm and I wasn’t sure how long to dry them out. It looks like I did okay though I do not imagine anything shrinking up on me now.

The reason I write Aromatic Cedar and Cedar is when we do go out and buy wood we like to go down to a place a friend turned us on to called “Austin’s Hardwoods” in Santa Ana ,California. It is there that I noticed the wood was labeled like that. I will have to read up on this as well but I am sure the wood is of differant grades and of course the Aromatic Cedar is self explanatory and does it smell sooooo good. This little ol’ phoenix has over 80 pieces and the pattern comes out of Scroller LTD. magazine Winter 2005. I personally had to tweak the pattern a little bit due to the tools I had at the time.

This was my 1st attempt at what I call 3-D pictures.I have always had a huge interest in this kind of woodwork, however what I have found in books ,mags,etc. has been VERY limited. I really would love to pursue this alot more. As you can see almost the whole thing is painted or stained, except the thin piece the tree’s are sitting on and the bigger tree is in front of. This piece had blues,greens and purple in it. The wood came from a wood palette. I have come to learn you would not believe what kind of wood some of those palette’s are made out of. “Not a palette I pass by”

The title for this is “Wolf Howl”. The pattern designer is Jacob Fowler and this pattern was found in Creative Woodworks & crafts March 2007.The design was to be placed on a base. I decided to make a chime out of it.
